Family for Thanksgiving

DSC_0043

This could alternately be titled Giving Thanks for Family!

My sister and brother-in-law, Kristi and Darren, packed up their family for a Thanksgiving vacation this year, and a visit to see us at our home in Kansas was their ultimate destination!

Before making their way here, they stopped to spend a few days in Branson, Missouri, where we happily met them, allowing all the kids to make some fun Silver Dollar City memories with their cousins. Uncle Kevin (who is actually Darren's brother but now lives in Kansas City near us and has been adopted by my kids as their very own uncle) made the drive down with the kids and me which I really appreciated since Aaron had to work that weekend and couldn't come along. :(

After two very fun-filled amusement park days, we trekked our way back home, and then the following day the others made their way out to spend some of Thanksgiving week with us. All the big cousins had the pleasure of seeing the newest Harry Potter movie together--quite a treat--while Kristi and I took the younger four to do kid stuff at Crown Center.

Some cold, windy days didn't stop the kids from wanting to play outside, and they had a ball biking and skateboarding, swinging, and playing in the leaves.

On Thanksgiving Day we had a nontraditional but delicious turkey gumbo by Chef Aaron to compliment that rare nationally televised Saints game...almost felt like home sweet Houma! We wrapped up that day with a lot of pie and some great family movies late into the night, and there were more reasons to be thankful than I could ever count.

One more cute shot, but it feels incomplete with Baby Rori missing! Wish she and her parents and her MeMoe and Paw could've joined us in this fun week!

We were sad to say goodbye but so happy to have had this fabulous week together. Love you guys SO much!

Movie Night

Back in July, my parents and I took the kids to visit the Stennis Space Center in Gulfport, Mississippi. It was so much more than I expected it to be!

The kids were really pretty fascinated by all they saw and read about. There was something there about Fred Haise and the Apollo 13 mission, and at the time I thought they would absolutely love to see the 1995 Apollo 13 movie. So finally this past weekend we made that happen. We did our family movie night thing complete with popcorn, and Ramsey and Maren were completely captivated and on the edge of their seats.

Curran and Alaire, however...

We'll have to try it again with them in a few years! :)

"American Tears" Veterans Day 2010

The video quality is very poor, but I had to try to capture this the best that I could to share with our favorite veterans. That precious girl singing the first solo is Maren. Pop and Paw Paw we would LOVE you guys to come for this event at school next Veterans Day!

Maren and her friends Danielle and Jacqueline with their hand chimes just before the National Anthem.

Our Neighborhood This Week

Cookie asked me how the trees are looking about a week or so ago. I've snapped a few shots since then, but most of these were shot pretty early this morning after all the girls were taken to their appropriate places, leaving Curran and I to our private time.

First week of November

I'm finding myself feeling thankful and very blessed for the pleasure of getting to know Kansas so intimately. Never would've guessed we'd find ourselves living here for any reason, and that just goes to show me that God has unexpected things planned for us all the time. What a beautiful adventure this journey is.

Wasn't Quite Done...

Let me add just a few more pics.

From an Enchanted Forest we went to a few nights before Halloween:

Love these sibling photos from that night:

They look a little worried, then they seem to snuggle a little closer! :)

He did this a lot to make sure people could see he was an elephant:

And here is Miss Alaire after the Halloween party at her school. Looks like she was wanting to play wii but just couldn't muster up the energy!

And while I'm at it, this is what happened way too late on Halloween night after too much candy and the usual two bedtime books. Then a very tired Daddy hauled them off to their own little beddies so he could have his spot!
