Autumn

When we first found our Kansas house in April, the trees along the streets of the neighborhood were bare. By the time we moved in June those same trees were all green, leafy, and shady. It's been so amazing to this bunch of cajuns to watch the transformation of autumn happening in our neighborhood! That one nice day that Cook was here we enjoyed a nice walk through the neighborhood as we took in all the beauty.

I honestly never knew how beautiful autumn in the midwest could be!

Since last weekend, all those beautiful leaves have been falling like rain onto our lawn, our driveway, the street--they're everywhere! There is no keeping up with the raking and piling right now!

Corn Maze

We had one very beautiful sunny day while Cook was in town, and luckily it was on the Saturday. It started off at 35 degrees, but quickly warmed up to a fabulous fall day!

The good news is that we'd planned to take a little trip with the family of a friend of Aaron's to a giant corn maze, and since it was beautiful and sunny, our plan didn't get ruined.

The not-so-good news is that because of several days of rain leading up to Saturday, the corn fields were so sloppy and muddy! We made the most of it anyway, and we had a fun time.

Just A Peek

A few days ago I poked my head out the front door to see if Ramsey's bus had come by to drop her off yet. A little piece up the street I could spy Ramsey and Ali walking home together, happily chit-chatting, and the scene was so beautiful I ran inside to grab my camera.

I snapped away like the paparazzi for several seconds, and when they got a little closer they noticed me and flashed me a smile.

When she came into the house, Ramsey asked why I was taking pictures of them walking home from the bus stop! I told her it was just the closest thing I could do to freeze time and let that moment linger with me forever. She won't always be twelve years old walking among the beautiful trees of a Kansas autumn, you know.

Little Pumpkin

Here's my little pumpkin all dirty and fresh from her kindergarten field trip to a pumpkin patch a couple weeks ago. She wanted the picture taken this way because she said this is how Daddy held the big pumpkin we got the week before. :)

Crazy Day

Last week for School Spirit Week Ramsey got to dress in jammies on Monday, like a twin on Wednesday, like a hippie on Thursday, and on Tuesday she got to dress crazy, so in other words, she just got to be herself. ;)

Maren's 4th Grade Strings Concert

Maren is taking a strings class at school and is learning to play the violin. When we got her all set up for the class about six weeks ago and were given the information showing the date of their first performance, I wondered how on earth a bunch of 9-year-olds could be prepared to perform in such a short time, especially since they haven't even been allowed to touch the bow of their instrument yet! Well, they performed pizzicato (plucking the strings), and it was absolutely adorable! The pictures are not good because we were in the nosebleed section of the gym bleachers, and I've blurred out faces of the children sitting near Maren in the closeup. But I'm blogging it anyway because I'm a proud mama.

And here's one of the video clips Ramsey got of the concert:

I hope that everyone has a day from time to time when they feel really, truly loved and valuable to the world, when they feel just a little more blessed than usual, and when they feel especially grateful to God for granting them that rich life filled with such abundant love and blessings.

Today is that day for me.
