Such a Sweet Treat!

Sweet Aunt Bec, Uncle Simon and the Peekshners of New Orleans sent the Peekshners of Kansas City a very special delivery this week!

What was inside was no surprise! They knew immediately what they'd find inside and could hardly wait until after dinner to tear into it!

We followed the instructions and warmed it in the oven for several minutes, and it was the best king cake I've ever had. Thanks so much Aunt Bec!! Happy Carnival Season to y'all... and Who Dat?!! xoxo

Social Butterfly

Thursday Little Miss went home with her friend Leah after school to play for a few hours. Thursday night we all attended a dinner party at which there was a little girl just her age, so she played her little heart out some more. Friday she went to her friend Molly's for another playdate immediately after school. Two days without her usual nap plus one night with a later than usual bedtime added up to this by 5:00 Friday evening.Photobucket

Happy Cajun Cuties

Here is a shot of 4 cute little Saints fans almost 24 hours after the thrilling win that sent the boys from New Orleans to their first ever Superbowl. Everyone proudly adorned themselves in Saints apparel (despite Ramsey and Maren having just worn those exact jerseys to school 3 days earlier on the Friday before that big game). Note, too, they're still smiling huge smiles. Their parents are, too! What a fun time to be "that family that just moved here from New Orleans!"

Pretty sure these two didn't watch one play of yesterday's game with us, but they sure looked cute showing some Saints love.

Sledding on Sunday

Today was gorgeous and sun-shiny and after a lovely mass and some yummy pizza we'd warmed up to some reasonable low 20 temps! We grabbed all the sledding stuff and headed back to the park to make use of all the fresh snow we got over the last few days.

Treasure Hunt

Who knows what treasures the kids will find just outside the house!

And my cajun girl Ramsey pulled a muddy, icy alligator head from beneath the neighbor's car!

Love the imaginations!

Scenes from Last Week

Following the Christmas holidays the girls had two days back to school followed by three snow days plus a weekend! Those snow days were actually too darn cold to even think about playing outside (think single-digit temps with negative double-digit wind chills), so we enjoyed resting off our busy holidays and having some good old all day pajama days.

The driveway did still have to be dealt with, though. And I ventured out for a bit while Aaron worked on that.

Brand New Year

I just love the start of a brand new year. A brand new year is a nice, deep cleansing breath after a good workout. All the hard work, all the tension, the stuff you wish you'd done better, the stuff you're proud you did so well--all of that merges at the start of a new year for me like so many others.

More than that, though, the new year marks the beginning of a brand new year of marriage for Aaron and me, so it's especially exciting and gives us even more cause for joy and pride, reflection and nostalgia.

It's now been 17 years since that incredible day when two best friends became husband and wife and set off to conquer the world on their own! But here we are, still husband and wife, still trying to conquer the world, and still the best of friends.

My family visiting for the holidays provided the perfect opportunity for us to have a real anniversary date night.

Family Visit Recap

On December 22nd my mom and my grandma flew in to spend two weeks with us. On December 27th, Aunt Becky, Jack, Ana, and Charlie flew in, too. On December 30th when my dad got off work for the week, he flew in as well. On the morning of New Year's Eve, after a super fun 4 days with us, the Peekshners had to return to New Orleans. But we got to enjoy Mom, Dad, and Granny until yesterday (January 5th). This week Aaron and the kids all returned to school, I returned to my usual hectic Mommy schedule, running errands all day, and by 9:00 am Curran was already looking pretty tired and lonely!

Last night all the cajun cuties were completely exhausted and in bed at 7:00, and the cajun cutie parents followed suit at 8:00! What a busy couple of weeks we had! We thank every one of you for your visit! We will never forget our Christmas Blizzard of 2009 and how y'all were here to share that with us.

Can you tell by who is pictured most who enjoys being the center of attention? :D
